Q&A with Jenelle Clinton

Where did you go to college and what did you major in?

Portland State University, BA and MS in Speech Communication.

I grew up in Portland and love all the things that make it a great place to live. I chose PSU because it is in the heart of the city. While on campus you enjoy easy access to the resources you need to pursue your degree and an opportunity to spend time in the tree-lined park blocks. Step off campus and you are part of the buzz of downtown Portland with access to dining, activities and employment opportunities.

How has your degree helped you in your professional life?

A college education provides a comprehensive skill set that extends far beyond specific subject knowledge. These skills, including information gathering, critical thinking, drawing conclusions, plan implementation, communication, teamwork, time management, adaptability and resilience, are fundamental for success in any career.

My post-graduate education has been invaluable to my career, equipping me with advanced skills in research, critical thinking, and presentation that I have applied to every job since college. I quickly learn new skills and ask the right questions, enabling me to effectively use new knowledge to improve existing standards.

What is your favorite part of your job and the impact you make?

My favorite part of my job is the opportunity to help my clients by providing information and solutions tailored to their unique needs. Just like you enjoy building meaningful connections and solving challenges for your students, I find it rewarding to offer assistance that can make a real difference. Whether it’s helping you understand a complex topic, offering guidance on decisions, or simply making a friendly connection, knowing that I can positively impact someone’s day is incredibly fulfilling. The impact I make is most evident in how I can bridge gaps in knowledge and offer support at any time.

Why are clients going to love working with you?

I prioritize transparency and open communication, ensuring clients are well-informed at every step. My goal is to build relationships based on trust and mutual success. I will be your biggest fan. Your successes are the best part of my day and the reason I do what I do.

Favorite hobbies outside of work?

I love to travel and learn from other cultures. Upon returning home, I enjoy cooking dishes I’ve discovered abroad. Cooking these recipes brings back the memories of the places I’ve visited and lets me share those experiences with friends and family, adding a personal touch to my culinary adventures.

Favorite podcasts?

For entertainment I like Wiser Than Me with Julia Louis Dreyfus. She interviews a celebrity guest, which is always interesting and entertaining. But the best part is she spends the last 10 minutes of the show calling her elderly mother to tell her about this interview. What a sweet relationship they have.

For current affairs I like Honestly with Bari Weiss. She digs deeper into issues that are impacting our country and brings in guests that make you think about things differently.

For a good perspective on life, health and career I listen to The Mel Robbins Podcast. She gives you the kick in the pants you need to go out and take on the world or at the very least YOUR world.
