Q&A with Andrea Shaw

Where did you go to college and what did you major in?

I graduated from Cornell University with a degree in Economics (focus on business and marketing) and then went on to get my MBA at the University of Virginia, again with a focus on marketing.

How has your degree helped you in your professional life?

I have always been fascinated by the intersection of psychology and business, so marketing was a natural fit for me. Things have certainly changed in that field over the years, but my interest and love for understanding consumer behavior and applying business strategies still excites me from my days of learning.

What is your favorite part of your job and the impact you make?

I am passionate about the power of education to change lives and create lasting change. Throughout my career, I have focused on roles that allow me to engage with students and college administrators to help them make the same impact.

Favorite hobbies outside of work?

Outside of work, you will typically find me on the tennis courts, my yoga mat or hiking the beautiful trails in Northern California – where I live. I am also a voracious reader and especially love historical fiction. I’ve taken up knitting and revisited playing my guitar which I find incredibly calming and of course, spending time with my two adult sons makes me happy.

Favorite movie?

My favorite current movie is “Complete Unknown” but also love old musicals like “Singing in the Rain” and “Good Will Hunting” is a favorite having lived in the Boston area. For podcasts, I’m addicted to “Smartless” with Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Shawn Hayes. Historical Fiction is my jam and right now reading a book by Carlos Ruiz Zafon called “Labyrinth of the Spirits” – it’s so good!
