The First Step to Better AI Visibility: Answer Student Questions

Most program pages are designed to explain what a program offers. Today, they also need to answer the questions prospective students are asking before they decide where to apply.

Whether students are using a search engine, an AI assistant, or your website, they’re looking for answers before they make decisions. Questions like:

  • How long will this program take?
  • What careers does it prepare me for?
  • Can I complete it online?
  • What does it cost?
  • Is financial aid available?

The institutions that answer these questions clearly are better positioned to connect with prospective students and improve their visibility as AI continues to reshape how information is discovered.

Think Like a Prospective Student

One of the simplest ways to improve your program pages is to view them through the eyes of a prospective student.

Instead of asking, “Does this page describe our program?” ask:

  • Does it explain what careers this program leads to?
  • Does it clearly state how long it takes to complete?
  • Can someone quickly tell whether it’s online, on campus, or hybrid?
  • Are cost, financial aid, and admissions requirements easy to find?

If those answers aren’t obvious, prospective students may struggle to make a decision, and AI may struggle to understand and surface your program.

Replace Marketing Language with Meaningful Information

Many program pages begin with broad marketing statements like:

Prepare for a rewarding career in healthcare.

While inspiring, it doesn’t answer the questions a prospective student is trying to answer.

Instead, lead with the information they’re looking for: program length, delivery format, career outcomes, admissions requirements, and unique opportunities.

Start Small

You don’t need to rewrite your entire website.

Start with your five highest-priority program pages and ask one simple question:

Does this page answer the questions a prospective student is most likely to ask?

If the answer is no, you’ve found an opportunity to improve both the student experience and your institution’s AI visibility.

This simple exercise is just the beginning. Our upcoming whitepaper explores how strengthening your content’s answering capacity can help institutions become easier for both prospective students and AI to understand
